Meet AACAP

As the nation's leading authority on child and adolescent psychiatry, The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) has been spearheading efforts to ensure that all children have access to high quality mental health care and services for over 50 years. Representing more than 7,000 child and adolescent psychiatrists across the U.S., the Academy is an advocate for children at risk; ensuring easy access to screening, assessment, treatment, and insurance parity, as well as important funding for research.

AACAP is committed to educating and communicating with parents and the public in order to promote an understanding of child and adolescent behavioral, developmental, emotional, and mental disorders and remove the stigmas too often associated with them.

AACAP's award-winning website (www.aacap.org) is accessed daily by more than 6,000 parents and family members looking for answers on when, where, and how to find help. The most popular feature of the website is Facts for Families , 87 easy-to-read and understand fact sheets on behavioral, mental, or developmental disorders that affect young people. Topics include: teen suicide; childhood depression; ADHD; autism; bulimia; anorexia; bipolar disorder; children and TV violence; obsessive compulsive disorder; obesity; oppositional defiance disorder; talking to children about terrorism and war; anxiety; bullying; and much more. In 2002, www.aacap.org was deemed the best website regarding children's mental health by U.S. News and World Report.
